Critical Literacy Topic 5

Topic 5:

You have almost complete this semester, so how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do so as it helps for betterment of the course as a whole.

In my honest opinion, for this particular subject named Critical Literacy (CL), first of all, Critical Literacy is a difficult subject of all subjects and it is true due to the senior's experienced and what they said. It is a subject that makes a student think critically and understand the requirement the rules of 10. If you slacking off this particular subject, you will not succeed and can't catch up as the lesson from beginning getting harder and harder every chapter as the time goes as well also might end up repeat this particular subject in the next semester with next batch of students.

Moreover, the assignment that the lecturer has given is hard and difficult, to be honest. With a short period of time includes multiple tasks of assignment that need to be completed from other lecturers, it is impossible to complete it all unless it is a miracle that all assignment that has been given are complete in a flash. To be honest, again, Critical Literacy is really hard and difficult among of all subjects.

Furthermore, the first and upcoming second assignment is made the student hate this particular subject named Critical Literacy. Why? It is because this particular subject is killing the students, they need to burn the midnight oil so that they can completely focus to finish the assignment. For the weak students, they need to slowly catch up the phase toward the rule of 10 or they might not able to complete the assignment on time and failed in his/her life.

My honest suggestion and comment is that the lecturer should consider over and over in given marks of every assignment that the students have given every last effort toward the assignment if the lecturers want their students to be a successful person that can further his/her study abroad or in Malaysia and can be a great leader that manage the country well someday. Not to forget, an amazing student comes from an amazing lecturer.

Overall, this particular subject is awesome and amazing as the students enthusiastic and passionate to learn more about the rule of 10 or a subject named Critical Literacy to be a good critical thinker and a good in English writings, they will become a successful person in their life and makes parents happy and proud.

Critical Literacy Topic 4

Topic 4:

The body is the greatest possession, the mind is the greatest treasure and the spirit is the greatest companion

• How do you view above statement

First and foremost, what is the body? A body is the physical structure of a person or an animal, including the bones, flesh, and organs. What is mind? A mind is the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought. What is a spirit? A spirit is those qualities regarded as forming the definitive or typical elements in the character of a person, nation, or group or in the thought and attitudes of a particular period. 

In my own opinion,  the statement above is true. Without those three elements which are the body, mind, and spirit, it is not a perfect creation by God. "optimum health requires the mind, physical body, and spirit to be balanced". It is a common quote nowadays. With having a physical body, you can do anything you desired for such as hiking in the tropical forest or hiking to the peak of Panorama Hill, rafting a canoe, snorkelling in the sea and so much fun and amazing activities can be done with a physical body. Eating a healthy food or any kind of food is require a body to fill in into the stomach.

Moreover, a mind is for you to think critically when you doing the assignment or task that the lecturer has been given. Without a mind, you can't even think and differentiate between glass and diamond or differentiate between good and bad. That's why God give us (human) a special ability that is different than an animal which is a mind to think.

Furthermore, a spirit is can't be separate from those 3 elements and it is vital in human. A spirit is the non-physical part of a person that is the seat of emotions and character; the soul. Without a spirit so-called soul, we wouldn't live in the world to think and to do anything.

Conclusion, in my own opinion, we must always grateful and appreciate what God have given us.

Critical Literacy Topic 3

Topic 3:

"If money were the only criterion by which a child's welfare can be gauged, then a baby bought for as much as RM40,000 on the black market would seem set for life. For money-rich but child-poor couples, it is a small price to pay to introduce a small life into their home. The cot is gilded, the blanket monogrammed, the college fund filled to the brim. All that's wanting is a bun in the oven. And where there is a baby-for-sale- racket, money can indeed buy happiness. And after all, why not?" (NST, March 3, 2013)

• Provide at leats two (2) premises or two (2) counter agreements for the statements based on your agreement.

First of all, what is happiness? Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. A variety of biological, psychological, religious and philosophical approaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources. Well, everyone want a happiness, happiness can be a variety of term in their normal life such as happy in playing at the playground, happy loitering with friends at the shopping complex or happy having a healthy family. But not everyone can reach that dreams due to the world modernization with a hectic schedule of their lifetime as the time goes. People don't have the time for pleasure moment with each other to spend; their life like a robot with the schedule that has been installed until can't even have a baby even though  the couple has married like 5,6  years ago. Some are just too busy with their professional life and some people are just not so excited about going through the process of having the baby itself which makes them moved to the initiatives such as child trafficking.

In my own opinion, I would like to agree that money can buy happiness, but then  after doing some research and through the process of critical thinking, my belief is that money does not buy a happiness at all. 

Based on the article called 'The Sun Daily' authored by Charles Ramendran, posted on date of 4th August 2015, state that "A 54-year-old woman, who led the syndicate and sought clients for the babies, was detained in the operation at 12pm." Which means that a baby's life has no value at all. 

Another article called 'CNN' authored by Naomi Ng, posted on January 14th, 2015, stated that "Police rescued 37 babies and a 3-year-old girl busting a child trafficking ring in eastern China's Shandong province, reported the state-run China Central Television. The newborn babies, many suffering from HIV/AIDS and malnutrition, were sold for between 50,000 yuan to 80,000 yuan ($8,000 to $12,912 dollars)." Which means that people nowadays don't care anymore toward the laws of the country and only matter the profit from the sales of the babies.


The only thing that matters now is how a person defines the happiness. If you are desperate to have a baby to own a 'happiness', then the previous paragraph is no doubt for you to own the happiness by paying a big price for a small life. Also, it is true money is almost everything we can buy but not life, that's my belief. As a conclusion, I do not agree with the statement money can buy happiness.

Not to forget, trafficking a baby is an illegal act because under the Children Act 2001 ( Child Act) - Act 611 : • Section 17 - children 's removed will be protected and safeguarded .Also, according to Bill Malaysian Crime :• anyone who is throwing the baby will be jailed for 20 years.

Critical Literacy Topic 2

Topic 2:

Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. However, it is also something that most people find difficult to avoid from doing. What do you think?

First and foremost, what is stereotyping? The stereotype is a widely held but fixed and reduced image or idea of a particular type of person or thing In a more simple word for the definition of stereotype, stereotyping occurs when we offer a hasty generalization about a group based on a judgement about an individual from that group. How does stereotyping work, First, we categorize other people into groups based on a variety of criteria - age, sex, race, sexual orientation, occupation, the region of the country or physical abilities. Next, we infer that everyone within that group has the same characteristics. For example, people who wear classic spectacle with braces on his/her teeth is been categorize as a dork or a nerd because of his/her appearance. Another example is that Chinese American is been categorize as a professional in a particular subject called Mathematics as the people of China is more toward the business in the distant past of the history. By stereotyping, we basically jump into conclusion and assuming that a person has a whole range of characteristics and abilities that we assume all members of that group have which is they don’t.

In the conclusion, people nowadays like to stereotype other people as their entertainment.It's like their habit that most people hard to avoid that will lead to bad consequence and may trigger the controversion among people. Our stereotypes of people from different people groups are often negatives such as White American might incorrectly believe that African Americans are not as qualified for higher education as they are however the Prime Minister of American, Barack Obama is an African-American, and he is one of the influential people among people. So in my own opinion, don't judge a book by its cover.

Critical Literacy Topic 1

Topic 1:

You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

First and foremost, when I was a student of semester 3 that I have been enrolling in KPMIM Kuantan, Pahang for 3 years, lately I have been heard a lot of comments or grievances of complaint from my seniors about this particular subject called Critical Literacy (CL) that I will face in semester 4 later. A grievances of complaint is widespread and all over the place of KPM Indera Mahkota about this particular subject named Critical Literacy (CL) from my seniors or upperclassmen, for instances, there are several negative comments and positive comments from senior students of a previous batch, they complain about they doing research a lot, read a lot, surfing the internet a lot, and also face the computer and typing a lot. I was puzzled and curious back then when I was 3^rd semester how I will survive in semester 4 later, which that’s my early expectation on the subject named Critical Literacy (CL).

Furthermore, there’s a senior that I know him well but I can’t state his name here because it is classified information, but what he complaint was about the subject called Critical Literacy (CL) is a lot harder than writing an essay that consist at least 1,500 words for subject called Introduction To Tertiary Learning (ITTL). Assignment of a subject called Critical Literacy (CL) is can’t be done in the last minute of work or delay in the future because this particular subject is all about critical thinking of mind or think outside the box toward research and type the assignment.

Moreover, another my own expectation is that, as I started in 4^th semester in the first class that conducted by Madam Zariati Haji Radzali, my mind was already thought this particular subject is like double the work of Critical Literacy (CL) and I was right about it. As the class began, Madam Zariati explained the rules of 10, each rule must evaluate its sentence long enough until it make sense and convince the lecturers regarding the topic that will give later.

Last but not least, despite all the comments from my seniors, it is common for students to face a harder subject in the future with a lot of obstacle and challenging as we get older and semester-by-semester. It is all about the matter of hard-work to accomplish the assignments.
